When did United & Delta retire their DC8-71 aircraft?

I guess early 80s? This is due to 767 EIS with UA/DL around that time and its pax capacity+range are similar to the DC8. Anyway, U can look up exact dates on the UA/DL fleet info right on this website.

Delta and United began (only US carriers) converting their DC-8-61s to DC-8-71s in 1982 and 1983. Installing GE/Snecma CFM-56 hybapass 25,000 lb trust turbofans. Delta then began converting UPS DC-8-61Fs to DC-8-71Fs in their Atlanta TOC. UPS was so happy with performance/result they signed an advance contract with Delta to buy all of Delta's -71s, and they were converted by DL to -71Fs for UPS delivery. Both Delta and United phased them out of the fleets in 1988. UPS reregistered them with N---UP and still fly them. Sadly, an end to a great part of the beginnings of the jet age.
