Hi, All.
My name is Justin. I am Thai. This month I am going on my vecation to Korea. I will fly from BKK-ICN on Sep/17/2008 By Asiana A330-300 Economy Class (I flew the same Asiana A330 to ICN last year also)
Can anyone tell me the best seat on the plane in terms of Comfort and Safety
And I actually have a little fear of flying. However, I have been flying since I was 4-5 years old. As far as I remember I had flew with all kinds of plane such as 747, MD-11, 737, 767, 777 - A300, A320, A330, A340 even the propellers....all kinds. And Now I am 28 years. The fear of flying just came to me like 2-3 years ago. I don't really know why.
The reason why I choose to fly with Asiana is that they have youngest fleet of A330 .....
Anyway, Can anyone tell me the best seat in terms of comfort and safety? I know that many of you guys may thinks that I am stupid. But I can't help myself asking this questions. And I know that talking to someone on Aviation forums help calm my fears down.
Regards,
Justin K

Safety is a more important issue so I'll talk more on that. I'm not too surprised re your fear of flight. In Thailand, U can't help but notice there seems to be frequent news about air accidents involing Thai carriers in the past few yrs.
In a life or death situation(i.e. Serious accident involving fuselage disintegration or explosion) on any given modern airliner type, I remember research has proven that all seats hv roughly the same chance of survival(i.e. Equally safe or equally unsafe). In minor accidents, I personally don't believe the myth/stories about some seats are safer than the others on the same aircraft. Because of the same tough safety certification standards are required for each new modern airliner design before it enters service, there's also nearly no diff between airliner types in terms of safety. As you read more on the subject of air accidents(Especially those in Asia), you'll find that the most common causes are:
1. Pilot judgement errors
2. Maintenance oversights(Aircrafts or Runways)
3. Weak safety regulation enforcement
4. Combination of the above
Last yr I read a story about the captain of an <Aggressive> Asian LCC(Low cost carrier) refused to take-off due to his concern over maintenance issue of his aircraft when all pax were already onboard. He was immediately fired by his airlines. His colleagues hv the same complaints but didn't want to lose their jobs so most continued to fly. Not long afterwards, a fatal air disaster struck this airline. The authority in this country admitted that they couldn't hire QUALIFIED inspectors fast enough to keep pace with the huge number of airliners being added into the country.....
I believe there're 3 scheduled carriers flying BKK-ICN: OZ(Asiana), KE(Korean) and TG(Thai). In my opinion, all 3 hv similarly good safety stds+histories in the past 10yrs(KE used to be bad before the mid-90s). As for regular charter on this route, stay away from Orient Thai....they're practically flying death traps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orient_Thai_Airlines
Many accidents actually occur in heavy rain. After landings by many aircrafts and without maintainance, large quantities of tire rubber deposited on runway surface(i.e. those big black patch of tire marks) become very slippery particulary when flooded with rainwater. Both BKK and ICN are the busiest airports in Thailand and Korea but their runway drainage engineering is very advanced and maintainance stds are very high. Slippery runways are usually found in smaller/older airports with only 1 runway but can't afford to close it down often for maintanance due to traffic demand(e.g. tourists) or lack of $.
As for <Best seat> for comfort, everyone has a diff definition(e.g. Some people love exit row seats for the legroom but others hate them due to lack of storage space). The key is to know exactly what to expect from a particular seat location in the cabin: http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Asiana/Asiana_Airbus_A330-300.php

First of all, I got to say Thank you for your info and comment. Well said!
I agree with you on the Orient Thai. I know that their safety record is horible and they using the aircraft which is older than my age (over 28 years old) I think.
Only the reason I choose OZ over KE and TG is roughly that OZ using aircraft less than 5 Years olds VS over 10 years aircafts from KE and TG. And plus I have a Star Alience milege program. lol
Actually, I don't really have trouble flying but since this month is rainy season in Thailand. That is why I am so concern about it.
However, Thanks FLX.

Most or all 747s of Orient Thai were sourced from Japan after they retired fm JL's fleet may be 4-5yrs ago. Some of Orient Thai's 747-100s and 747-200s were among the 1st batch of brand new jumbos that joined JL back in the early 70s! Amazingly, these 747Classics had always been maintained by JL in tip-top conditions before they were retired & sold to Orient Thai. I hv a 747 book which contains a beautiful full page photo taken in early 2000s of a JL 747-100 taxing to the reef runway in HNL. Its fuselage was so clean & smooth that I can clearly see the reflection of the blue Hawaiian ocean on it. Nearly 30yrs old, that 747-100 looked just like it's freshly delivered from Boeing to JL! I feel very sad to see these ex-JL 747Classics ended up in such poor conditions in Thailand.....
I hv also flown with OZ a few times in 98 & 99 and used to be an ABC(Asiana Bonus Club) member. I was and still am pretty impressed with the inflight services of this airlines(Don't really like their website though because unlike KE or TG, U can't do online booking in English). Amazingly, OZ is still little known outside Asia despite their 5-star rating in Skytrax.
